The Argentina Botanic Gardens Action Plan

A two-day Workshop to develop a draft of the National Botanic Gardens Action Plan was held by the Argentine Botanic Garden Network (RAJB) and coordinated by Peter Wyse Jackson, Secretary General, BGCI; at Jardín Botánico “Arturo E. Ragonese”, INTA, Castelar in June 2004.

Ideas regarding the 5 target themes of the International Agenda - Understanding and documenting plant diversity, Conserving plant diversity, Education. Awareness. Communication, Sustainable use of plant diversity, Training- were brainstormed, ordered and discussed. They were shaped during the second day.

The level of participation and compromise of the garden´s representatives was highly satisfactory. Targets were drafted in line with some of those of the GSPC, and it was agreed that a commission will meet in the near future to finish the draft of the remaining targets. The compilation, edition and making available of the draft is on progress. A group including members of the Directing Commission of RAJB is currently revising it. Later the draft will be circulated between the Botanic Gardens of Argentina and organizations related to conservation and education, prior its publication in 2005.
