With over 3,600 native plant species, including 123 national and 850 regional endemics respectively, Armenia includes nearly half of the Caucasus’ floral diversity. The Red Data Book of Armenia (2010) lists some 452 threatened plant species. In order to step up support for plant conservation in the wider Caucasus, BGCI has started a new conservation programme in Armenia under the umbrella of the Global Trees Campaign (GTC), initially focusing on the rare and threatened Sorbus hajastana.
