I work with restoration practitioners to identify priority research questions related to the restoration and management of native plant communities, advise graduate students as they work to answer these priority research questions, and share results with different communities that will be able to use them. Some of the questions my students and I have addressed are related to how to produce and use genetically diverse native plant materials, whether the soil seed bank at a site targeted for restoration contains sufficient diversity and abundance of desired native species to support passive restoration, and how specific management approaches intended to decrease the abundance of invasive species (e.g., mowing and overseeding) impact the target species and desired native plant community.
