BGCI provides membership to institutions working in plant conservation – botanic gardens, arboreta, NGOs, restoration organisations, government, universities, and more. BGCI is consistently looking for and welcoming new members, to help address the challenge of securing plant diversity, for the well-being of people and the planet.

About BGCI Membership

BGCI is a non-profit membership organisation, representing plant conservation institutions worldwide. We advocate for the botanical community, promoting the role of botanic gardens in plant conservation policy, practice and education; we connect people to exchange ideas; we provide training and learning resources; and we provide funding and technical support to efforts aimed at saving plants.

Becoming a BGCI member institution is a great way to support the global botanical community; income from membership goes right back through to the development of publications, training materials, funding, and more. All staff in your institution are able to access BGCI member benefits.

The many ways that our members have benefited from being part of our community, and what we have achieved together with our members in the past year, are showcased in our Year in Review.

BGCI Membership Benefits

By joining BGCI, your institution and staff will be part of the largest global network of botanic gardens and institutions in conservation, and have access to a range of dedicated services:

BGCI Patron Members

BGCI’s Patron Gardens support our work both financially and with in-kind donations. They include some of the largest, most influential gardens in the world, and are entitled to the following additional benefits:

  • A seat on BGCI’s prestigious International Advisory Council
  • Office space and office support when visiting London
  • Preferential fund raising and project development activities
  • The opportunity to speak at BGCI Congresses
  • Invitations to BGCI special events
  • A feature on BGCI’s website

Institutional Membership Categories and Fees

Member institutions pay an annual fee in alignment with their annual budget.

BGCI acknowledges that botanic gardens across the globe have varying financial and human resources. As such, BGCI’s Membership Categories and Fees are based on the institution’s annual budget. Regardless of category, member institutions and their staff have access to the same benefits. The table below outlines the fees for each category of membership. BGCI accepts membership payments in three currencies: Great British Pounds (GBP), US Dollars (USD), and Euros (EUR).

Please note that the payer is responsible for all bank transfer charges when making a BACS payment.
