Urgent call for signatures

News published: 14 December 2022

We call on researchers around the world to join us in making a powerful statement to world leaders negotiating the text of the Global Biodiversity Framework. If you are working in a research position on topics relevant to the CBD, and would like to sign the statement, please fill in the form below and we will add you to the list of signatories. The statement is here.

We are a global cross-section of biodiversity scientists and other researchers urging countries to resist all pressures to weaken the ambition of the Global Biodiversity Framework of the Convention on Biological Diversity, being finalised at COP15 by 19 December 2022 in Montreal Canada. We have prepared a statement urging that the 2030 deadline is not abandoned in the COP15 negotiations, and that ambitious quantitative targets on reversing biodiversity decline, reducing pressures and addressing equity must be retained.

Many research articles document the need for such synergistic and ambitious action, and we want the voice of researchers to be heard more loudly through this call, which will be presented to the negotiating countries at critical points in the coming days.

Please join us by signing, and urgently circulating this call in your professional circles. We need all supporting signatures by Sunday 18, 2022!!
