Arnoldia: the Nature of Trees, the magazine of the Arnold Arboretum, seeks submissions on plant collection, collections care, and curatorial practice for its Notes from the Field section. Articles in this section are short, informal, first-person narratives of experiences “in the field”-whether the field in question is the garden, the archive, wilderness, or urban and mixed ecosystems. Authors should develop a scene-based narrative, while providing context to establish the broader importance or novelty of their in-the-field work. Each essay is accompanied by a new artwork, often based on reference images provided by the author.
Arnoldia also publishes feature-length research articles and personal essays exploring all manner of tree-entangled research, history, and experience. For a complete information on submissions, have a look at our guidelines for contributors. And feel free to reach out to editor Matthew Battles with your questions and ideas. We look forward to working with you!
