The State of the World’s Trees report was launched 1 September 2021 and highlighted that at least 30% of the world’s trees are threatened with extinction. This is more than double the number of threatened mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians.

The inclusion of threatened species in restoration projects is an essential strategy to support their in situ conservation. With huge global interest in tree planting and restoration, and in the UN Decade of Ecosystem Restoration, there is a unique opportunity to deliver tree species conservation.

This webinar took place on the 7th of December at 14:00 GMT, and explored how the results in the State of the World’s Trees report can be used to catalyse restoration and inform species selection, giving inspiring restoration success stories and practical ways to take action.

Speakers included:

  • Silvia Alvarez-Clare, The Morton Arboretum (USA)
  • Guaraci M. Diniz Jr., Jardim Botânico Araribá (Brazil)
  • Norbert Rottcher, Kivukoni Indigenous Tree Nursery (Kenya)
