Illegal plant trade is driving many plant species to the brink of extinction. More plant species go extinct annually than animals, with over harvesting and illegal trade being major drivers of extinction. Raising awareness of consumers will help tackle this threat to plants.

BGCI is using the global reach that botanic gardens have in their visitors to create an awareness campaign on the illegal trade of plants. Raising awareness of consumers will help tackle this threat to plants and reduce the pressure and ultimately prevent extinctions in the wild.

We are currently fundraising for this project through BigGive’s #GreenMatchFund. The great news is that any donations made during this campaign (18th-25th April 2024) will be doubled!
