An Accomplished Leader, Gray Brings Over 35 Years of Conservation Experience

Boyce Thompson Arboretum proudly announces the appointment of Kim Gray as its new Executive Director, effective February 19, 2024. Kim, a native Arizonian, brings over 35 years of experience in conservation leadership to this esteemed position.Jared Langkilde, Board Chair of the Boyce Thompson Arboretum, remarked,

“Kim’s extensive background in conservation and her visionary leadership skills are exactly what the Arboretum needs as we look to the future. We are excited to have her on board.”

Shelly Esque, Past Board Chair, echoed this sentiment, “Kim is the ideal leader to take the Arboretum forward. Her dedication to conservation perfectly aligns with our mission.”

Raised in Gilbert, Arizona, Kim’s passion for the natural world was nurtured through her exploration of Arizona’s diverse landscapes. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Zoology from Arizona State University and a Master’s in Business Management from Cardinal Stritch University. Beginning her career at the Phoenix Zoo, Kim advanced through various leadership roles in U.S. zoos and non-profit organizations. As Chief Operating Officer at the International Crane Foundation, she successfully oversaw a $10.4 million renovation, demonstrating her skill in strategic planning and operational leadership.

Kim’s expertise in fundraising and collaboration with government partners on endangered species initiatives has been pivotal in her career. Her appointment at the Arboretum marks a return to a place that held special significance in her youth. A devoted gardener, Kim enjoys cultivating cacti, succulents, and vegetables. Beyond her professional achievements, she loves hiking, reading, and spending time with her dog, Trixie. Residing in Gold Canyon, she is also a proud mother of two adult daughters.

Kim shared her excitement about her new position, saying, “Boyce Thompson Arboretum has always been a source of inspiration and learning for me. I feel privileged to lead this organization and continue its 100-year legacy of conservation, education, and community engagement.”

“We are confident that Kim’s leadership will usher in a new era of growth and success for the Arboretum,” added Jared Langkilde.
