This year the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA) Zoo Horticulture Conference will be organized by Royal Zoological & Botanical Gardens Rotterdam (Diergaarde Blijdorp), the Netherlands.
The EAZA Horticulture Group is a ‘working group’ for zoo employees who, through their position, are concerned with ‘green’ within their institute. The group has broad goals and the topics ranged from the best browse for a range of animal species, the construction and design of a planting plan for a new animal enclosure, the right plant species for enrichment and the use of greenery and, for example, the planting of trees for the public experience. This means that the conference can be attended by a wide audience and is an interplay between various disciplines of zookeepers, gardeners, designers, project agencies, collection managers and landscape architects.
The conference will take place from 23 to 26 June 2025. We are still looking for applications for presentations. There will be room for poster presentations as well!
The program covers several subjects:
Day 1: Making zoos greener: Innovative planting, biodiversity, and sustainability.
Day 2: Trees and Tree management.
On Day 3 there will be a visit to the famous Oak collection of Trompenburg Gardens & Arboretum.
For more details about the registration and costs of this conference please contact Mr Rick Put r.put@diergaardeblijdorp.nl
