The Global Conservation Consortia for Oak, Magnolia, Cycad and Conifer, coordinated a tree conservation planning meeting in Vietnam. This meeting was co-hosted and supported by the Southern Institute of Ecology, Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam. Over 20 participants from NGO, government agency, arboretum/botanic garden and university sectors attended.
This meeting was the first step in initiating partnerships to collaborate on future conservation action planning for trees in the region. Following the meeting, the group went on a four day trip visiting national parks and botanic gardens in southern Vietnam to meet with partners there to discuss how they can work together to support their tree conservation and restoration efforts. They also got to visit the Bidoup Forest Dynamics Plot, which is a part of ForestGeo, Global Earth Biodiversity Network.
