It is with great sadness that BGCI announces the passing of Dr Kathy MacKinnon, one of BGCI’s longest serving board members.

As Chair of IUCN’s World Commission on Protected Areas (2015-2021) Kathy brought strong knowledge of in situ conservation and habitat protection to BGCI. She was also passionate about encouraging young people to join the conservation cause, and the Sylvia Scholarship Fund she set up in her mother’s name does exactly this, providing help to early to mid-career conservationists to advance their professional knowledge, skills and networks.

Most of all, though, we will miss Kathy for her wisdom, kindness and thoughtfulness. She was always there if needed, ready to provide support and advice. BGCI sends its deep condolences to Kathy’s family and friends, and we share your sadness and shock at her untimely passing.
