On June First 2019, Ms. Anne Charpentier was appointed Director of the Montreal Botanical Garden, at Montréal Space for Life – Espace pour la vie-, Québec, Canada, following Mr. René Pronovost, who retired.
Ms. Charpentier has been appointed with the ambicious mandate to achieve the Montréal Botanical Garden Master Plan, that will lead the institution to its 100th anniversary. Ms. Charpentier will manage a team of up to 200 people during the summer. She will also collaborate on the development of the direction, strategies and objectives of the Montréal Space for Life, and the management of cross-cutting files related to the 4 museums.
Ms. Charpentier holds two Master’s degrees – one in Museology (1991) and the firts one in Biology (specializing in Botany, 1989) from the Université de Montréal. She has worked in the field of museum management for 30 years. She was a member of the group who designed the Montréal Biodôme, where she coordinated exhibitions and cultural activities. As a museologist, she was involved in opening Environment Canada’s Biosphère, and later returned there to direct the complete renewal of the museum. She has headed up the Montréal Insectarium from 2008 to 2019, and its transformation towards a new and unique architecture. Her accomplishments and involvement earned her the 2005 Outstanding Contribution Award from the Canadian Association of Science Centres. She also received an honorary degree and was named 2013 “Personality of the year” by the Faculty of Arts and Science of the Université de Montréal.
