We are pleased to announce the launch the Global Conservation Consortium (GCC) for Ebenaceae led by the Missouri Botanical Garden, in collaboration with BGCI and other partners from across the world. The objective of the GCC is to address the conservation needs of this important group. This network of experts seeks to develop and implement a comprehensive conservation strategy, using both ex situ and in situ approaches, supported by a sound taxonomic framework and detailed scientific investigation, to prevent the extinction of the world’s ebonies.
To date, eight Consortia have been established in collaboration with several organisations for highly threatened plant groups: Acer, Cycads, Dipterocarps, Erica, Magnolia, Nothofagus, Oak and Rhododendron. Ebenaceae makes it nine Consortia and we will be soon be launching the Conifers and Whitebeams, Rowans and Services Trees consortia. With this growth we are migrating the information from the GCC website into the BGCI website. If you work on one of these groups you can become an affiliate. Find out more about each consortium.
