A new article titled “Conservation Action Tracker: A tool to identify and monitor conservation actions for tree species” by Itxaso Quintana, Malin Rivers and Katharine Davies has now been published in Applications in Plant Sciences (APPS). This article is part of the special issue “From Theory to Practice: New Innovations and Their Application in Conservation Biology”.

The Conservation Action Tracker can be found via BGCI’s GlobalTree Portal.

The GlobalTree Portal is the first portal dedicated to conservation information for the world’s tree species. Included in the GlobalTree Portal is the Conservation Action Tracker, an online, global resource that tracks and monitors species-specific conservation actions at the global scale. The Conservation Action Tracker provides an overview of conservation activities such as, baseline information, conservation action plan for species, ex situ information, in situ management, policy for species protection, and education/awareness about species conservation. To date, the Conservation Action Tracker contains conservation action information for 4,126 tree species, including 2,161 threatened species. The aim of the Conservation Action Tracker is to guide and prioritize conservation actions by identifying gaps in the conservation of tree species, sharing important conservation resources, increasing collaboration, and making the information available to be used by decision-makers. Tracking conservation actions at the species level is, therefore, crucial to facilitate planning future conservation actions for the world’s most threatened trees.

The Conservation Action Tracker’s potential to support conservation will be greatly enhanced with the addition of more data, hence we make a call to tree conservation practitioners to join this effort and contribute information for the species they are working on.
