The Sustainability Challenge

The Sustainability Challenge is a joint initiative between BGCI and Phipps Conservatory and Botanic Garden. It aims to engage and inspire 150 million people around the world to participate in simple challenges that will result in more sustainable lifestyles, such as saving water, energy or food.

What have we designed so far?

We have designed 3 activities so far, they include

  • BGCI Food Waste Challenge: A 30-day challenge which aims to challenge visitors to botanic gardens to reduce their fruit and vegetable waste by adopting different behaviors.
  • Plate Palate: An garden activity where you evaluate the carbon footprint of your meals and see if you can supplement your food to create a more ecofriendly meal. This activity focuses attention on the edible plants in your garden.
  • Houseplant Sustainability Challenge: A simulated shopping challenge where you discover how sustainable your plant shopping choices are! The shopping challenge focuses on houseplants with tips and advice on how to create sustainable plants for gardens.

What can you do to help?

We would like to keep you informed when new activities are available. Expressing interest in these activities will also help leverage funding as we will be able to demonstrate the need to create more sustainability challenges.
