Since 2016, botanical gardens of South Africa have been involved in a sentinel research project funded by the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) under the framework of the IPSN. To date, plant health has been assessed in twelve gardens across the country. Many alien and native pests and pathogens have been identified from the various gardens. Though the project, capacity of botanic garden staff in plant health has been built through various training courses.
