The Baekdudaegan Global Seed Vault (BGSV) is pleased to announce the launch of its website.

BGSV’s goal with this website is to provide depositors around the world with an easier way to learn about BGSV’s latest activities and to browse information on wild plant seeds. The website features a comprehensive database of the storage status of wild plants seeds, detailed guidelines for depositing seeds, and the latest news about BGSV. Additionally, it provides information on various education and training programs aimed at raising awareness of the importance of seed conservation. By ensuring easy access to this information, BGSV aims to promote a collaborative approach to conserving global biodiversity. The website will be regularly updated with the latest news and announcements.

Meanwhile, the Seed Vault is a facility designed to store seeds from around the world to prevent the extinction of global plant species in the face of major disasters such as climate change, environmental pollution, natural disasters, and human-made catastrophes.

Currently, there are many seed vaults worldwide. The first established, the Svalbard Global Seed Vault (SGSV) in Norway, primarily stores seeds of crops, while BGSV in the Republic of Korea stores seeds of wild plants.

BGSV stores seeds deposited by organizations worldwide and has the capacity to store approximately 2 million accessions of seeds. Upon request of the depositor, plant seeds, especially those of wild plants, are stored in sealed containers (i.e., Black Box System). Deposited seeds are stored and managed free of charge.
