With support from a grant from National Geographic Society and the Walder Foundation, Amy Byrne, Christina Carrero (previous Morton Arboretum GTCP employee), and Itxaso Quintana (BGCI), successfully coordinated and hosted two red list training workshops at Queen Sirikit Botanic Garden (QSBG, Chiang Mai, Thailand), and Vietnam National University of Forestry (VNUF, Hanoi, Vietnam). Over 80 participants attended both workshops and became trained in conducting IUCN Red List Assessments, learned more about the Global Conservation Consortia, and contributed information on their tree conservation efforts in Southeast Asia. The information gathered will contribute to BGCI’s Global Tree Portal as well as future conservation action plans and the conservation gap analysis of native Southeast/East Asia oaks that Kate Good is working on with project partner, Joeri Strijk (Alliance for Conservation of Tree Genomics).
