Institute of Botany of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), as a participating member of the World Flora Online Consortium, has been deliberately working on the development of the e-flora of Azerbaijan since 2014. In this regard, it is planned to draw up a list of information (checklist) of natural, xenophytic and adventive vascular plants of the Azerbaijan flora in accordance with the existing modern classification and nomenclature.
The first volume of the book “Vascular plants of the Azerbaijan: a nomenclatural checklist of nonflowering plants” has been published. The presented book is a significant contribution to the existing knowledge of lycophytes, pteridophytes and gymnosperms of Azerbaijan. It presents updated taxonomy and nomenclature which reflect the precise modern state of coverage of studies of the plant groups concerned. A list of 97 taxa belonging to 17 families and 30 genera of seedless vascular plants, and 56 taxa of 5 families and 20 genera of gymnosperms has been compiled.
Review editor of the publication is Dr. Peter Wyse Jackson, President of the Missouri Botanical Garden, and peer-reviewers are Prof. Dr. Sergey Mosyakin, corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Prof. Dr. Svetlana Litvinskaya, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences and Prof. Dr. Magsud Gurbanov, corresponding member of ANAS.
The scientific editor of the publication is Prof. Dr. Irada Huseynova, Vice-president of ANAS and responsible editor is academician Valida Alizade, Director of the Institute of Botany.
This volume was prepared for the publication by the decision of the Academic Council of the Institute in the authorship of PhD in Biology Rashad Salimov, Head of the Department of Systematics and Biodiversity, PhD in Biology Parvana Garakhani, Head of the Herbarium Department and researcher Zenfira Aliyeva.
