Plants are the foundation of life on Earth, yet thousands of species face the threat of extinction.
In recognition of the need to conserve plant diversity, governments around the world adopted the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation (GSPC) in 2002, and botanic gardens are now leading efforts to implement this Strategy. The GSPC’s 16 outcome-oriented targets were the first ever internationally agreed targets for biodiversity conservation and the GSPC has been recognised as an innovative model approach to achieving the CBD targets. Following the Kunming-Montreal Global Framework, a new set of Complimentary Actions for the period 2021 -2030 and were adopted at the next Conference of the Parties to the CBD (COP16) in Cali, Colombia in October 2024.
This webinar covered:
🌿 A review of the successes of the GSPC so far.
🌿 An explanation of the new phase of the GSPC and an introduction to the newly adopted Voluntary Complimentary Actions.
