Botanical gardens, arboreta, and research institutions around the world have been exchanging seeds through Index Seminum seed catalogues for centuries. For the first time, all the Index Seminum catalogues can be found in one place under this Index Seminum BGCI hosted Tool in a combined list cooperative web service. This is an online platform for responsible seed exchange.
In this BGCI Online workshop participants learnt how to use the new online platform:
- Introduction from BGCI about sharing plant materials across institutions
- Anneleen Kool (Director, University of Oslo Botanical Garden) and Reinout Havinga (Head of Garden and collections at Hortus Botanicus Amsterdam) gave a live demonstration of the new platform
- Workshop attendees had a chance to ask questions
- Discussion on future developments for the tool
- BGCI closing remarks on other BGCI databases
Add your comments/questions onto this Padlet, please add your name if you would like us to contact you.
Also explore BGCI’s Compliance Certification that sets to identify institutions that are applying best practice with Access and Benefit Sharing, Biosecurity and CITES regulations.
