BGCI has worked in the region for many years with both large and small botanic gardens from Pakistan to the Philippines. Gardens in Asia include some of the most visited attractions and environmental education centers in the region such as Singapore Botanic Gardens as well as new gardens associated with protected areas such as the Bidoup Nuiba National Park Botanic Garden in Vietnam.
The gardens in Asia are working to conserve the immense plant biodiversity of the region through both long standing histories of research and collection, like at Bogor Botanic Gardens and newly initiated gardens such as Pha Tad Ke Botanical Garden in Laos.
The BGCI China Programme Office was established in 2007 at South China Botanic Garden, Chinese Academy of Sciences and covers a diverse range of species conservation, habitat restoration and environmental education activities in the country. BGCI also supports the Southeast Asia Botanic Gardens (SEABG) Network as its secretariat since its inception in 2004. The office of the SEABG Network has been located at the Dr. Cecilia Koo Botanic Conservation Center in Taiwan since 2016.
