Endangered Endemics Nursery in Puerto Rico
Introduction
Currently, the nurseries at Eye On the Rainforest house over ten species of endangered endemics. The initiative for this project began in response to Hurricane Maria in 2017, which devastated all the tree nurseries. Since then, they have rebuilt and established a new nursery dedicated to endemic species conservation.

Project Goals
The aim was the conservation of endangered endemic plants through regular maintenance and monitoring, propagating plants and establishing trees in the wild. Education outreach was also part of this project, including community engagement.

Key Achievements
Funding supported essential nursery supplies, including soil, pots, labour, and maintenance, as well as in situ and ex situ planting efforts. It also facilitated horticultural exchange, seed sharing, and educational outreach, which enabled significant contributions to the conservation of Puerto Rico’s endangered flora.
276 endangered endemic trees were successfully propagated and planted, enhancing genetic diversity and ecosystem health. This has enhanced habitat restoration and advanced species recovery plans through collaboration, and contributions were made to the Global Tree Assessment.
Engagement was made with over ten educational groups, promoting awareness and advocacy for biodiversity, through hands-on conservation activities. Unfortunately, limited staffing affected community outreach and educational program leadership but good results were still had.
