Project: Completed 2020
Funded by The Global Botanic Garden Fund (GBGF)
Project Partner: Forest Science Institute of Central Highlands and South of Central Vietnam (FSIH)
The FSIH cooperate with Tropical Research Center of Bidoup-Nuiba National Park to study and develop various propagation techniques were applied to coniferous species focus on K. evelyniana. This project aims to collect seeds to ex-situ conservation at Lam Vien Arboreum. The partnerships can promote conservative capacities, experienced conservations.
Project Goals
The aims of the project collects the seeds of K. evelyniana from central highlands and growing seedlings to ex-situ conservation at Highlands. The partnerships can promote conservative capacities, experienced conservations focus on coniferous species speci cally and protecting threatened species around the world.
Key Achievements
The speciments was collected at Da Lat city, Lam Dong Provine. The herbarium standard was applied at Herbal Room of FSIH’s Sylviculture Department following Herbarium Handbook of Royal Botanic Garden (Diane Bridson and Leonard Porman, 2000). The current population status of Keteleeria evelyniana based on the IUCN Red List (https://www.iucnredlist.org/). The Final Assessment is VU for K. evelyniana The Germination Test was completed following R. L. Willan, 1985. 50 seedlings was planted at Lam Vien Arboretum and 50 seedlings was planted at Botanic Garden of Bidoup-Nuiba National Park.
The project will help to achieve the targets of the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation. The endangered species, Keteleeria evelyniana was conserved at Botanic Garden of FSIH and Bidoup – Nui Ba National Park. The importance of plant diversity and the need for its conservation incorporated into communication, educational and public awareness through the conference. The last one, this project enhanced the conservation awareness of researcher, conservationist, communities for coniferous conservation in Vietnam such as Pinus dalatensis, Taxus wallichiana.
