Food has a huge environmental impact on the planet, and its production is a key driver of biodiversity loss.
Supported by our Global Botanic Garden Fund, Bergamo Botanic Garden set out to tackle this with their ‘Good For You, Good for the Planet’ project, aiming to help improve both the state of our planet and our health.
Education is a valuable tool in enabling people to take steps towards personal lifestyle choices and behavioural changes that are more conscious of their impact on food supply chains. Because of this, BigPicnic created an educational tool that every botanic garden around the world could download, print, and use to test players on topics linked to food sustainability and behaviours with large environmental impacts.
With over 400 players so far, including 16 school classes, 25 teachers, and 12 Italian botanic gardens, the impact on food-supply related behaviour and the planet is sure to be positive, and will only grow as more people engage with the game.
“It’s fun and makes you think”
“We were surprised that the kids followed the game really well!”
We’re incredibly proud to have played a role in a great example of conservation that aims to inspire and spark interest in the natural world in younger generations using a tool that not only helps them engage with and reflect upon topics that would otherwise seem boring, but that can be shared worldwide for others to use as well.
