BGCI hosts the Secretariat for the IUCN/SSC Global Tree Specialist Group (GTSG), a global network of experts who, working in their own regions and institutions, all contribute to the conservation of globally threatened trees. The GTSG is one of over 180 IUCN Species Survival Commission Specialist Groups, Red List Authorities, Conservation Committees and Task Forces. 

The group has over 100 expert members from botanic gardens, herbaria, universities and both governmental and non-governmental organisations represented. A newsletter is shared, approximately four times a year, with the membership providing updates on the Global Tree Assessment, other news and calls to action for the group.
